As can actually be quite attractive, no one wants poison ivy in their yard or garden. Poison ivy is strong, and completely removing a large infestation can take more than a season. In order to be successful in removing it, you must attack your strategic plan and be prepared to return more than once.

Before you begin, the plant point of your children so that they know what they look like plants. Once you start removing it would not be good examples to show, and all children must be able to identify and avoid the poisonous plants.

Before you begin, you will need:

Each part of this plant, including roots, contain oils that can cause skin rash and can be very dangerous if they get in eyes or are inhaled. Plan to do everything you can to protect themselves, while removing it. Before you begin, have on hand the following:

A closely woven polo shirt long with a collar that can be buttoned high around the neck.

long pants

One or two pairs of gloves Heavy Rubber (minimum) with long chains

heavy shoes or boots that can be washed down

Wide brimmed hat

Close fitting goggles and a respirator mask. Have multiple masks if you intend to work in few sessions as you would want to take a mask when you get it.

large plastic bag heavy

Rubbing alcohol

Lightweight oil

A strong soap like Fels Naptha such or other specialty soap to remove oils from plant peelings

A glyphosate herbicide such as Roundup

A spray applicator to be used only for herbicide application

How to Apply a herbicide Glyphosate for Poison Ivy

Be sure to wear protective clothing as listed above.

Select a day in late spring or early summer, when plants have grown vigorously. There should be little wind and rain should not be expected for at least 48 hours. You would not want the product to be either washed off by rain or blown on the plants desirable or your lawn grass.

Mix a stronger solution to your liquid glyphosate according to label directions and spray directly on poison ivy, wetting it thoroughly. In countries where your sprinkler will throw a very wide spray, use a paintbrush to small foam poison to apply directly to foliage.

In a week or ten days, when significant parts Plants seem to be dead, dig down and remove any roots you can identify. Poison ivy roots are dangerous as well as high growth. Even though they may not be growing, they still contain dangerous oils. Cover and protect yourself.

Access to all plastic parts plant in your firm.

Mark the area where you removed the plants stake or other marker so you can return regularly to check for any plants that may have missed. Poison ivy do not produce berries that can come next year, so this may be a multi-year project.

If vine has grown up not spray fruit trees. A glyphosate can damage or kill the tree. Instead, cut flow with an ax about a foot off the ground. Spray the plant remaining in the ground carefully with your glyphosate, using a cardboard barrier to protect the tree and desirable plants if necessary.

Allow the top of the vine remain in place. Over several months he will die and eventually fall from the tree, at which time you can carefully bag and dispose of it.

Cleaning

All materials and plants that are removed in a strong plastic bag trash. While mulching and composition are generally recommended in the garden, not in this case. Shredding or burning would release toxic oils in the air, where they can easily be inhaled.

Wash carefully by all means rubbing down with alcohol, including treats. Allow them to air dry and then oil them carefully to prevent rust.

Boots or shoes with a good wash with soapy water, and Take your rubber gloves.

Just in case your skin has been exposed, shower with a soap designed to remove poison ivy oils. Not Remember to wash your hair thoroughly. If you know your skin has come into contact with poisonous ivy, wash thoroughly with strong soap in cold water (to keep the pores from opening).

Wash all clothing separately at least twice.

Always wash down the tub well. When your baby climbs in with his baby water toys, you don't want any poison ivy oil left in the tub as your child plays with her favorite Alex Bath Toys.
