So I'm getting an Asus Laptop (5 star best and most informing answer)?
Asus - Laptop with Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor - Black model: G72GX-RBBX05 . I want to know is there a specific case I will have to get? Is there anything you can tell me about it that I should know? This is my first laptop.
ALSO: I need a new wireless router, mine is old and very very slow. I don't want to spend too much, and I might just buy off eBay. Any suggestions?
There isn't much to tell about any laptop other than that there are very little upgrades available. I'm not sure if there is a specific case you have to get, but the obvious requirement is that the case was designed to fit your screen size. same goes for carrying bags. But I don't know too much about either.
As far as the router goes, it really depends on your internet speed. Anything 20mbps or less, any wireless G (802.11 G) router will do fine. If you have uber fast internet (faster than 20mbps), then you should probably go with a wireless n (802.11 N) router. A wireless g will still work on fast networks, but the router would probably end up being the bottle neck of your speed. If you are unsure of your internet speed, aim for a wireless N anyway because they are almost always backwards compatible with G (and usually b), plus you'll be ready for a speed upgrade in the future. If you do get a wireless router new (B, G, N, or any combination of the three), expect to pay at least $50-$75. You might get a used one for about $20-$30 if ur lucky.
Your laptop already has an internal wireless b/g/n card, so there won't be any issues with ur laptop with regards to which router you pick. As far as brands go, I have had relatively good experiences with Linksys and 2Wire. I did have a pretty bad experience with Cisco. I have never used Netgear, but I hear they are good as well.
If you are a little confused with B/G/N wireless stuff, here it is in a nutshell:
B = old and slow
G = pretty fast, but previous generation
N = fastest and newest.
you generally will not see any other wireless technologies except bluetooth.
