It is the beginning of 2009 and the Acer Aspire One netbook has been and still is a popular seller. With its small form factor, and powerful insides, it is no wonder it is as popular as it is.
It is equipped with the new Intel Atom processor. The Intel Atom was specifically designed to meet the needs of netbooks and their users. It provides the necessary power but only requiring a minimum of energy to run. It uses the new hafnium-infused circuitry design.
The size of the new Atom chip is amazing at only 22mm or 0.87 inches. It only needs 2.5 watts to power itself. On the Acer Aspire One netbook, the battery life is rated for 5.5 hours with the included 6 cell battery. You get plenty of time for computing on the go and away from an outlet.
It runs the Windows XP operating system, so your applications will be readily available. And with the integrated webcam, you can video chat at hotspots very easily. With 160 GB of hard drive space, you have plenty to bring along whatever documents you need as well as photos and movies and music.
In the looks department, it looks good. You get a choice between white, black, and sapphire blue. All three look great and very professional. Since netbooks are so small, the Acer Aspire One netbook doesn't have an integrated optical drive, but you can easily attach external drives via the USB ports that are available.
It will read Secure Digital cards as well as MultiMedia cards. You can use these to transfer data between your main computer and this netbook. The small form factor makes netbooks ultra portable. So this netbook is excellent if you are a student and you want to tote along a very lightweight netbook to class to take notes or to goof off.
For the business road warrior, the netbook may become your preferred computing choice to bring along on business trips. A small form factor, extremely lightweight, pleasant aesthetics, and professional look all add to its appeal.
You do have to get used to the screen size. You don't have as much screen real estate as standard laptops. But the size is suitable for working on the go. Come to think of it, netbooks will fit wonderfully on those pull down trays on airplanes. You have limited space on the trays and the netbook with its small size makes it a better option.
