Is it safe to run my WD passport drive from a protective sleeve or case?
I just bought a 2.5" external hard drive (WD passport). I was wondering if it was safe to operate it from a slightly padded fake leather sleeve I am using to simply avoid scratching/damaging it while carrying it around.
The sleeve is open on the connector side.

You'll probably be OK for intermittent, light use, but you really should give it all the ventilation you can to prevent over heating.
